Hillary for President?

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus made four different arguments about Hillary Clinton running for president. He said one she might not even run in 2016, two Clinton could be an easier opponent for the GOP than, say, Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, three Clinton's tenure as secretary of state isn't a plus for her, and fourth her health and age is fair game. In my opinion I don't think she would make a good president. What do you guys think?

Biden goes to prom?

Joe Biden the vice president of the United States was asked to a 17 year olds prom. A girl from Connecticut sent a letter to Joe Biden asking him to her prom. Did he go? Of course not but he did send her a letter back saying he could not make it and he gave her a corsage. Now this is a nice thing for him to do but in my opinion it is a media stunt to get more approvel. What do you guys think?

Death Penalty

I found this to be interesting so I thought that I would share it with you guys. NBC did a poll on the death penalty and other methods and the results showed that two-thirds of the people would be open to finding another way of "Humanly" killing someone other than the lethal injection. 20 percent of those who wanted another way said the gas chamber while 18 percent are for the electric chair. I think that the gas chambers is a horrible idea and definitely not painless. In the constitution it say no cruel and unusual punishment and I think that the gas chamber falls under that category. And I think that if they can not find an non-cruel way for putting someone to death then the death penalty can no longer be used. No matter if you are for the death penalty or not if the method is cruel and unusual then it is against the constitution. What do you guys think?

Should We Pick Putin's Pocket?

My name is Cody, I am a Democrat and a friend of Will's who loves to have debates with him. I am Communications Director of the New York High School Democrats (Want to start a chapter at your school? Hit Me Up!)

Anywho...

I was just reading an editorial (cited below) about this whole crisis in Ukraine. We all know how unhappy Russia's invasion has been making America, Europe and most people west of the Iron Curtain. The question is "How Do We React To That?" I believe the best way is to hurt their wallets. Economic sanctions can go so far. Russia currently asks for $117/barrel for Russian-produced oil. Oil plays a sizable role in Russia's economy and I think if we were to boycott Russian oil completely, the drawback to their economy will hit them where it hurts. Likewise, boycotting other Russian goods would be a wise move for us to take.

This is a graph of where America gets its oil.

Where The U.S. Gets Its Oil
Russia is part of that miniscule 3.1% of oil providers that aren't domestic or from The Americas, Africa or the Persian Gulf. It wouldn't hurt our oil supply very much and I wouldn't expect gas prices to rise much, if at all because of this move.

What do you think? Should we try to "Pick Putin's Pocket?" Should we take any actions against Russia at all? Comment Away!

Cody out.

KTtalks

Hey all, Katie here (note I'm a democrat and just a friend of the main author of this blog).  My job is to talk to you about anything I want... Topic for today will be "If you could become anyone in office for a week who would you choose?"
I would not want to become Barack Obama, too much pressure on that job and oh man that guy gets a lot of hate... plus I would be afraid I'd age SUPER quickly with all the stress.  Biden becomes an interesting contender in this subject, I mean he seems like a pretty rad, sometimes quick to speak, caring dude! I'd want to be able to accomplish something in my time in office, a week is a VERY short time to do that so maybe I'd be just like the mayor of a town and meet all the sick kids in a hospital and buy cool gifts for them or something.  Sorry for this post guys Will will be back tomorrow.  Stay cool, answer the question "If you could become anyone in office for a week who would you choose?"
Peace

Humans aren't causing climate change

Marco Rubio, a Republican out of Florida told ABC news that he does not believe that human activity is causing dramatic changes to the climate. Rubio also doesn't believe that any changes that our nation makes will have an impact on the environment. Does he honestly think that he is an expert on climate so that he can make those claims and if he thinks that we are not the cause of the climate change then who does he think caused it. As a member of the Tea Party lets hope he doesn't become president.

Solar Energy

President Barack Obama has recently stated that we can no longer wait to implement new technologies to combat climate change. During a visit to a Wal-Mart store in California, Obama stated that solar energy is getting cheaper and easier to use. This statement came about the same week that the administration released a report warning that the climate change is affecting Americans with weather and environmental impacts. Some Republicans are arguing that focusing on an environmental overhaul would cause too many Americans to lose their jobs. The White House is also announcing new private and public partnerships which are designed to reduce pollution and increase energy efficiency. I think this is a great idea because if we continue to ignore all of the climate warnings without doing anything then our world will continue to be destroyed. It may cost us a lot now, but in the long run it will help our world immensely. What do you think about Obama's plan and the Republican's opinions?

Romney is backing the minimum wage increase.

The former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said last Friday that Republicans should drop their opposition on the minimum wage. Romney says the Republican party should support the raise of the minimum wage because Republicans are all about creating more jobs and better pay. Romney is now the third known Republican to say resisting the minimum wage increase is hurting the party's brand. Romney has said that he is not interested in running for president again in 2016, but it is interesting that he is calling out his party. What do you think about Mitt Romney not supporting the republican party on this issue?
